I Graduated From BYU

Image
I just had a rather life-defining moment. On April 24, 2025, I graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. It’s hard to explain the feelings I’m having. This has been my life goal for as long as I can remember. And now it has finally happened. There were two moments in particular that left me in aww. First when I exited my final class. I was originally going to just go back to my apartment. But then I realized that I would only be coming back to campus a handful of times. I just had to sit on campus for a while and let the fact sink in that I would never have to attend another class (unless I get my master’s eventually). Then the other moment was when I turned in my final assignment. What a crazy feeling. On one hand, I felt liberated about having all the responsibilities of school completed. But I was also a little bit scared. What if something wasn’t good enough and I wasn’t going to be able to graduate. With that I also realized how much fear and anxiety a...

Thoughts on Lunara PTR Patch - April 21 2025

As an avid Lunara player I felt it was my duty to discuss the changes made to Lunara in the most recent  PTR patch notes . It's been a good bit since Lunara was updated, so even if most of the changes are fairly minimal (except level 20), it is still exciting to see. Level 7 - Splintered Spear Splintered spear now has stacks. This change is technically a slight buff, but in reality, inconsequential. It just makes it so if only two enemies are available, you don't waste any spears. Now splintered spear will split off to the second enemy on each of your next three attacks. Note if there are 4 enemies in range, all stacks of splintered spear will still be used. This means that in most situations nothing is different. Level 13 - Endless Spores Endless spores now refunds mana. Not super necessary as Lunara is not a super mana hungry hero. But I won't say no to the buff. It will keep Lunara in the fight for just a little bit longer in certain situations. Level 20 For The Wildland...

Ride Report - April 23, 2025

Image
This is my first ride report on this website. I have a motorcycle and like to go and see cool things. 🙂 I have a 2005 Honda Shadow Aero (750cc) and like to go on long rides. This week I drove up Diamond Fork with my friend Sean. Map data ©2025 Google I've never been up this road before. Unfortunately though after 10 miles we hit a gate. So we decided to take some pictures. There was a cool bridge nearby so we took some pictures. Sean and I then met a dude on a dirt bike. We watched him cross this little stream. Sean then promptly asked if I thought he would be able to cross the stream on his yellow ninja 600 sports bike. I said it would be funny to watch him try. Well try he did. He actually made it across on his slick tires. And then he dropped his bike. This flooded the engine, and we had to wait an hour before it would start again. Overall, I had a great time though.

My Opinion On Various Programming Languages

Here are my opinions on various programming languages. I don’t think I have too many controversial opinions in this respect. Even still, I hope at least a few of my takes are mildly triggering. At the end of the day use the right tool for the job. I think Bjarne Stroustrup said it best. “There are only two kinds of languages: the ones people complain about and the ones nobody uses.” C Still unrivaled in embedded development. And I think there is a nice simplicity to it. There are newer languages though, many of which have useful features. C++ I personally prefer the extra features C++ provides over C. Having objects, and a larger standard library is nice. I also appreciate the C++ committee’s dedication to keeping things performant (zero overhead principle). In terms of performance and ease of use there is really nothing that matches C++. C lacks a lot of basic features we enjoy as modern developers, and Rust is quite difficult to learn. C++ also has multiple excellent compilers. Nowad...
